AAC for AACs: Age Appropriate Communication for Adolescent and Adult Communicators with Severe/Profound Developmental Disabilities (Two Block Session)
Saturday, October 20, 2007 8:00 am - 10:30 am
While working with adolescents and adults with severe/profound developmental disabilities, do you still hear nursery songs and see childish toys and books throughout the environment? Are you struggling with finding or making materials to meet the needs of these individuals? This session will help you identify characteristics and barriers shared by older emergent communicators and develop a meaningful process for making decisions, regarding age-appropriate services. Learn the rationale for and principles of this practice. Participants will receive information about commercially available products and a take-home guide to materials and vendors that suit the very special needs of adolescents and adults.
